Percy Jackson.
I LOVE THIS SERIES!
I HATED THE MOVIE!
I just had to get that out there. The books were FABULOUS! The movie was HORRIBLE!
So if you read the books DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT WATCHING THE MOVIE! For info about the books, scroll down.

On that note, the Percy Jackson and the Olympians books by Rick Riordan might be some of the funniest books I've ever read. They're just... special. Like the chapter names, such as I Accidentally Vaporize my Pre-Algebra Teacher and I Get and Enemy for Christmas. They kind of draw your attention.
Anyway, if you like Greek Mythology, then you will definitely love these books. There are characters from Greek Mythology, only how they'd be in the modern world.
The first book, The Lightning Thief, begins with Percy, a 12-year-old boy in New York City with ADHD and dyslexia on a field trip to a museum with his favorite teacher, Mr. Brunner, and his least-favorite teacher, Mrs. Dodds. Percy dumps an annoying girl in a fountain, and gets in trouble with Mrs. Dodds. Mrs. Dodds turns into some sort of monster-called a Fury, but you don't know that yet- and Mr. Brunner tosses Percy a life-saving... ballpoint pen. Percy uncaps the pen, and it turns into a sword. Wait, what happened? Did I just miss something? Anyway, Mrs. Dodds vaporizes, and when Percy gets home from school, his mom tells him that that they're going to their vacation house at the beach. Percy's best friend Grover shows up there, and has Mrs. Jackson drive them to this mysterious place where Percy fights another Greek monster, the Minotaur. He gets behind the magical boundary (his mom can't go through) and into a crazy summer camp for kids that have one parent that is a god or goddess, and one who is mortal. These are called demigods, if you're not into mythology. Percy, Grover (who isn't a demigod, he's a half-goat/half-guy, called a satyr), and another demigod named Annabeth (see above) go on a quest to return a lightning bolt to Zeus, the king of Greek gods. What happens to Percy, Annabeth, and Grover? Hint: There are about ten books about Percy and Annabeth (Grover sort of becomes a minor character after this) so they survive.
The other books are The Sea of Monsters, The Titan's Curse, The Battle of the Labyrinth, and The Last Olympian.
Robin and I were disappointed when Book Five ended, and were thrilled when a new series, called Heroes of Olympus came out. In the first book, The Lost Hero, there are three new demigods: Jason, Piper, and Leo. Each has their own little problem: Jason has lost his memory, Piper's dad (a mortal- her mom is a major goddess) is in trouble, and Leo is trying to fix a metal dragon. Meanwhile, at camp, Annabeth is slowly going out of her mind with worry because Percy has been missing for three days. The next one, The Son of Neptune, I don't want to give away anything, but Percy is okay (I won't say where he is), a.nd he has made new friends like Reyna, Hazel, Dakota, and Frank (also enemies, like Octavian). The next book is The House of Hades, due to come out fall 2013 (so basically forever!)
HAPPY READING!
