Sister Trouble
Written by Robin Zimbabwe
"EEk!" Abby screams and bangs her "spill-proof" sippy cup on the floor. "Grrrr! Quit it Abby!" I say, grumpily. Can't my noisy little sister see I'm trying to watch Food Network? Suddenly, as I try to listen to what Rachel Ray is saying about pasta, the commotion gets worse... "ABBYKINS! YOU'RE MY FAVORITE LITTLE BABY EVER!" My other little sister Natalie shrieks. Then, she pulls Abby into a bear hug, which makes Abby screech even more! Sigh. "Please stop, guys. Hey! How about some nice, quiet TV! How about, um, like, The Backyardagins or something! Yeah!" I say, trying to muster some enthusiasm. They both stare at me like I'm the baby! "There are no new episodes! Let's watch Crazy Stunts instead!" Natalie suggests and grins. Abby takes one look at Natalie's face and in seconds is wearing the same expression. No way are they watching Crazy Stunts! I don't even watch it! It's SCARY! Natalie can sense what I'm thinking and she decides to pull out the puppy dog eyes. She even whimpers a little! "Ask Mom and Dad about watching it, because, I'm sorry, but it's kind of scary for kids. Even 14 year old kids, like me." I tell Natalie, carefully avoiding the puppy dog eyes. She finally gives up and drags Abby into the playroom. "Thank you!" I call from across the house. Phew! I'm glad that's over! I run back to Rachel Ray and her tips.
After an hour or so, I hear a huge BANG! from the other part of the house! I rush over there and my mouth falls open. Mom's not going to be happy!
"NATALIE AND ABBY!" I scream. Our play piano is on the floor. Abby whimpers and starts to wail, "HAILEY! HAILEY!" I scoop her up quickly. "It's okay Abby, please don't cry!" Abby squirms in my arms and cries even more. I groan, "Natalie, what happened?" I lie Abby down on the soft couch. "I'm sorry, Hailey." Natalie says, giving me a hug. "It's okay, but what happened?"
"We were playing," Abby says, wiping her cute, gray eyes.
"Playing?" I raise an eyebrow, "Please be careful." I sigh and stumble lazily back over to the couch. Natalie hops onto the couch next to me. She scoots over and nudges me.
"Yes?" I say, not wanting to stop watching Food Network.
"I'm sorry." I pause the TV and turn to her.
"I'm sorry, too,' I give her a hug. Natalie giggles and settles into the couch next to me. I smile.
